DVD • Elaine Stritch is a show-business survivor, and she reveals many of those scars in the emotional documentary "Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me."
The Broadway and sometime TV star (best known to younger audiences as Jack Donaghy's hard-to-love mother on "30 Rock") is shown preparing a new one-woman show of Sondheim tunes.
As she does, director Chiemi Karasawa captures intimate moments as Stritch reminisces about her former co-stars and collaborators — including Noel Coward and Rock Howard — and deals with her diabetes and discusses her bouts of alcoholism.
Best of all, the movie shows Stritch in her natural environment, onstage, turning every song into an anthem of endurance and perseverance. —
