Family members and friends gathered in the Japanese section of the Salt Lake City Cemetery early Sunday to honor Japanese veterans. The event included a floral tribute to World War II servicemen killed in action, performed by members of the Mount Olympus Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League, according to a news release. Planned speakers included the Rev. Masami Hayashi, of the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple and a veteran of the 100th Battalion, and Nelson Akagi, a veteran of the 442nd Regimental Combat Unit.
