Two Weber County Jail inmates reportedly escaped Friday morning, and one of them is still loose.
The pair were assigned to a work crew at the Weber County Animal Shelter when they walked away from the facility, at 1373 N. 750 West in Ogden, according to the Weber County Sheriff's Office. The men, a 46-year-old and a 27-year-old, reportedly left sometime between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.
They walked into Harrisville City and allegedly tried to steal a bike in front of a home on 1600 North, according to a news release. The homeowner confronted them while someone else contacted the authorities. The duo tried to flee, but a Harrisville police officer arrived and caught up to one of them, the release adds.
Police could not find the younger inmate, Joseph Wayne Cook, who they believe made his way into Ogden. Investigators plan to seek a warrant for his arrest.
As a precaution, Wahlquist Junior High School, in Farr West, and Pioneer Elementary School, in Ogden, locked down while police and deputies searched for Cook.
Cook is described as 5-foot-9, 145 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Weber Consolidated Dispatch Center at 801-629-8221.
