Three home runs and a Trace Hansen three-run double provided plenty of offense in BYU’s 16-2 victory over Santa Clara on Friday night at Larry H. Miller Field in Provo.

Cougar second baseman Hansen went 3 for 4 and drove in five runs for BYU (19-29, 9-14). His bases-clearing double in the fifth inning scored three runs and gave BYU an 8-1 lead. He added a two-run double in the seventh inning which put the Cougars up 16-1.

BYU starting pitcher Jeff Barker went seven innings and allowed only two hits and one run, while striking out four.

In front of 1,139 fans, BYU’s Brock Whitney and Kelton Caldwell hit back-to-back home runs to start the second inning, and Bret Lopez homered in the fifth inning.

Utah 4, Washington State 1 (13) • In Pullman, Wash., Utah’s Konnor Armijo led off the 13th inning with a single and scored on an error, and Wyler Smith added a two-run single as the Utes won the Pac-12 game.

Southern Utah 8, Idaho State 0 • In Pocatello, Idaho, Southern Utah hit four home runs in its victory at the Big Sky Conference tournament. Kylee Wolf hit two homers and had four RBIs for the Thunderbirds, while Kadi Anderson and Lyndsey Healey each hit a homer.

Southern Utah will face Idaho State again in Saturday’s championship round. The Thunderbirds have two tries to get one win over the Bengals to lock up the title.
