A Utah driver is accused of speeding around a crash scene Wednesday morning in Wyoming, striking a highway patrol cruiser and injuring a trooper.
The trooper was inside a parked cruiser on Wyoming State Highway 387, near Midwest in northeast Wyoming, while a previous crash and several slide-offs were under investigation, according to a press statement from the Wyoming Highway Patrol. A lane had been closed, and multiple cruisers and tow trucks had their overhead lights activated, WHP reported. Traffic was moving 30 to 40 mph, when a driver from Riverton sped around other vehicles in the passing lane, troopers wrote. The driver's F-150 truck drove through the traffic cones and "plowed" into the parked cruiser at 66 mph, troopers reported.
The Riverton driver, 46, was not injured and was cited for reckless driving, troopers wrote. The trooper sitting in the parked cruiser suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released.
