Bakersfield, Calif. • The Utah Grizzlies’ season ended Friday night at Rabobank Arena.
Bakersfield scored three goals in the second period and rolled to a 5-0 victory over Utah in Game 5 of a first-round ECHL playoff series.
The Condors, seeded sixth in the Western Conference, defeated the third-seeded Grizzlies in the best-of-seven series, 4-1.
After earning a split in the first two games at the Maverik Center, Bakersfield finished off Utah by winning three straight at home, including Games 3 and 4 in overtime.
It was only the third time all season — and the first time since December — the Grizzlies lost three straight games.
During the scoreless first period, Utah outshot Bakersfield 13-7 despite having to kill two power plays.
In the second period, the Condors took the first two-goal lead by either team in the entire series with a pair of early goals in a two-minute span.
At 2:12, Jordan Knackstedt put Bakersfield in front, 1-0. The goal came just over a minute after Utah’s Channing Boe was called for holding. It was the Condors’ first power conversion in 21 attempts during the series.
At 4:11, Chris Collins gave Bakersfield a 2-0 lead when he beat Grizzlies’ goaltender Igor Bobkov.
Finally, with 5:52 left in the period, the Condors’ Joel Broda scored another power play goal just 32 seconds after Utah was called for too many men on the ice.
