Riverton • From his position in front of the Riverton goal, Silverwolves keeper Parker Seegmiller had as good of a vantage point as any for his team's game against Lehi on Wednesday.

Especially since the ball came his direction in only isolated cases.

But Seegmiller, along with everybody else, could only surmise as to why his squad gets the upper hand on the otherwise undefeated Pioneers every time Riverton faces Lehi. The matchup advantage for the Silverwolves was confirmed as Riverton beat the Pioneers 3-0 for a second time this season.

Those are the only games that Lehi (9-2-1, 5-2-1 in Region 4) has lost.

"You know, they're really good at passing it around, but we're really good at controlling them. I look for Brett Smith or Richard [Anderson] and we get a lot of goals that way — long balls from me and our defense," said Seegmiller of long outlet passes to the forwards. "Yeah, we match up well with them. I was kind of surprised when we got the first goal so early, but I wasn't surprised after that."

Riverton (8-3, 6-1) got on the scoreboard first, in the seventh minute of the game, when a centering ball from Nick Tanner deflected to teammate Christian Evans, who then shot past Lehi keeper Tanner Munson for a 1-0 lead.

Only ten minutes later, Anderson tallied the first of two goals for him personally. The second of the senior's scores came with six minutes left before intermission.

"Riverton's always given us problems, I think ever since we were put in the same region," Lehi coach Jerry Preisendorf said. "They put a lot of hard pressure on us and we lose our composure. That's about it.

"We gave them really short fields," he added. "Those three goals were really short fields because of mistakes out back."

Lehi put a modicum of extra pressure on Seegmiller and Riverton's defense in the second half, but the Pioneers' best chance to score flitted away when Alex Sorensen's tapped shot lightly hit the bottom of the right post in the 55th minute and went out of bounds.

"We played them tough last year as well, but then there's teams that give us a lot more trouble than they do," Riverton coach Paul Moizer said.
