Children apparently were involved in a playground fire that caused at least $30,000 in damage Tuesday night at a Spanish Fork elementary school.

The fire broke out about 6 p.m. at Park Elementary School, 90 N. 600 East, in a playground structure, said Nebo School District spokeswoman Lana Hiskey. High winds caused the flames to spread, damaging another nearby playground structure and burning an exterior wall of the school and a small part of the roof, Hiskey said. A security camera also was damaged. Firefighters arrived quickly and subdued the flames amidst the gusting winds, Hiskey said.

The damage was estimated at $30,000 but insurers still were investigating as of Wednesday, Hiskey said.

The school's security cameras captured footage of the fire and submitted it to police. Hiskey would not discuss the findings, saying that minors are involved.

"No kids were harmed," she said. "We're very grateful school was not in session, so we didn't have a lot of kids there."
