He signed with Saint Mary's out of high school. He took a detour to Citrus Junior College, and became one of the best JUCO power forwards in the country.

Now, Chris Reyes is back playing Division I basketball.

The 6-foot-7 rising junior officially signed with Utah on Wednesday morning, becoming a Ute when he faxed over his letter of intent. With his signature, Reyes becomes the fourth member of Larry Krystkowiak's recruiting class.

"I'm really excited to join Utah," Reyes said. "It's an excellent program, and I've had a close relationship with the coaching staff for a long time."

Reyes had academic issues that caused him to leave Saint Mary's but has developed nicely since. This past season, he averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds per game. He is expected to come in and compete for playing time right away, especially with Jordan Loveridge expected to spend more of his time next season at small forward.

Reyes will be on campus in June, in time for summer school.

"I'm excited to play with Jordan," Reyes said. "He's a great ball player and a great guy. We're going to be tough to stop. Whoever has the mismatch is going to be able to get into the paint and score."
