Just in time for Easter, it's the monthly Salt Lake Gallery Stroll, when art galleries in and around downtown Salt Lake City show their stuff.
The stroll happens Friday, April 18, from 6 to 9 p.m. Go to gallerystroll.org for details.
Here are some highlights:
Modern West • A new gallery joins the ranks this month: Modern West Fine Art, 177 E. 200 South. It's the creation of Diane Stewart, art collector and philanthropist, and Donna Poulton, longtime curator of Western art at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. It had its opening March 28.
'Oyster Pirates' and 'Momu & No Es' • CUAC (175 E. 200 South) serves up two shows. One is the first U.S. exhibition of the Spanish collective Momu & No Es, which uses video art, installation and performance to tell stories that "challenge social roles, inverting the established order to propose other possible options that may transform the establishment." The other is by the local collective Oyster Pirates, 13 artists who collaborate on the same canvas. The reception runs from 6 to 8 p.m.; the exhibit runs through June 13.
'Plastique' • Brolly Arts will take over the Urban Arts Gallery (137 S. Rio Grande St., in The Gateway) with "Plastique," a multidisciplinary show — visual art, dance, poetry, film and research — about "the wonderful horrible nature of plastic." The exhibit runs through May 3.
Susan Kirby • Williams Fine Art (132 E St.) will present a one-woman art show and sale of the works of Susan Kirby. The Salt Lake City-born artist is self-described as a "naive" painter with colorful images, often with leopard prints prominent. The reception runs from 5 to 9 p.m.
