Utah students win culinary scholarships

Three Utah culinary students earned $6,500 in scholarships to The Art Institutes during a regional cooking competition recently in San Antonio, Texas.

In the Best Teen Chef Competition, Larissa McBride, a senior at Provo High School, earned first place and a $4,000 scholarship, while Skyler Goodman, a senior at Clearfield High, earned second place and a $1,000 scholarship. For the contest, the students had two hours to prepare and serve an appetizer and an entrée with sides.

In the separate scholarship competition, Scott Jefferies, a graduate of Jordan Adult High School in Sandy, placed first and earned a $1,500 scholarship.

McBride and Jefferies now will compete in a national competition in New York in April where the grand prize is a $40,0000 scholarship.
