An outage has left more than 1,000 homes and businesses in southeastern Utah in the dark.

Winds knocked out power to Rocky Mountain Power customers in Bluff, Mexican Hat and Montezuma Creek on Sunday evening, according to the San Juan County Office of Emergency Management. Though about 4,000 homes and businesses were initially affected, repair crews had managed to restore power to all but about 1,000 by 9:20 p.m.

A shelter has been set up at the Bluff Community Center at 190 N. 200 East for those affected.

Rocky Mountain Power does not know yet when the power should be restored.
