A Provo cycling activist who disappeared last week died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on a mountain above Provo.

A search party of Andrew Ungerman's friends found the 24-year-old's body about 5:40 p.m. high on a mountain above Timp View High School, said Provo police Lt. Mathew Siufanua. Friends and family had been looking for Ungerman since he disappeared March 12, focusing their searches on trails they knew he enjoyed hiking and cycling, Siufanua said.

Ungerman was the director of the Provo Bicycle Collective and an outspoken supporter of new bicycle lanes.
