Seniors who volunteer more than 15 hours a week are eligible for an award from Home Instead, Inc., a company that provides home health-care services from five Utah locations.
Home Instead is seeking nominations through March 1 for its "Salute to Senior Service" program. Applications are available at http://www.SalutetoSeniorService.com.
State winners will be determined by a popular vote on that website, said Home Instead spokeswoman Joni Williams, with a panel of senior-care experts selecting a national winner from among state champions.
Home Instead will donate $5,000 to a nonprofit charity designated by the national winner, she added, and $500 to nonprofits selected by each state winner.
"Seniors have so much to give and make a positive impact on our communities daily," said Sam Davis, a Home Instead franchise owner in Salt Lake County. "Senior volunteerism not only benefits others, but also helps seniors stay active and socially engaged in their communities — important elements of healthy aging."
Nomination forms also may be mailed to Salute to Senior Service, P.O. Box 285, Bellevue, Neb., 68005.
