Three more Utahns have died because of the flu, this time in southwest Utah.

The three influenza-related deaths occurred within the past two weeks, according to the Southwest Utah Public Health Department. They are the first flu deaths for this year's season in the five southwest counties. Only one person died from influenza during last year's flu season.

Forty-six people in the southwest counties have been hospitalized because of the flu this season, said Lisa Starr, department surveillance nurse. Nearly all tested positive for H1N1. Their ages range from infants to seniors, but the deaths have affected people younger than 65, Starr said.

Two flu deaths have been reported in Salt Lake County.
