It was a good day during a good year for the Good Book.
As part of Salt Lake City's celebration as National Bible City for 2013, Utah government, business, civic, faith and even sports leaders gathered at the Utah Capitol on Monday and took turns reading from the Holy Bible.
Readers included Gov. Gary Herbert, Mormon general authority S. Gifford Nielsen, Catholic priest Martin Diaz, Rabbi Frederick Wenger, Pastor Gregory Johnson, homeless advocate Pamela Atkinson and Utah Jazz President Randy Rigby.
The New York-based National Bible Association named Salt Lake City — world headquarters of the LDS Church and the heart of Mormonism — as its Bible city for the year. The group's stated mission: Encourage everyone to read the Bible.
