Residents in Davis and Weber counties can expect increased jet noise this week.

Two units at Hill Air Force Base are conducting a surge through Thursday. F-16s will be taking off from dawn to midnight throughout the operation, said Kari Tilton, spokeswoman for the 419th Fighter Wing.

"We appreciate [residents'] understanding," Tilton said. "This training is really important so our pilots can sharpen their skills."

The surge is meant to mimic the environment pilots would face during deployment, Tilton said. She declined to specify the exact number of jets participating but said activity will be 70 percent greater than normal. The operation is a joint exercise of the 419th and the 388th Fighter Wing.
