Search and rescue crews spent Tuesday afternoon trying to help an injured man who fell near the Bells Canyon Falls.

The 20-year-old was hiking near the falls in Bells Canyon when he fell about 30 feet at 2:30 p.m., said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal. A helicopter crew reached him, and he was flown to a hospital later in the afternoon. He was in serious condition, with some broken bones, Hoyal said.

Hoyal said hikers in the past have suffered injuries in the same area when they tried to cross the falls and slipped.
