Police are looking for a man who stole a car in Taylorsville Friday night while a 6-year-old girl was in it.
The girl was uninjured, and she and the car were recovered just five minutes after the thief reportedly stole the vehicle, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
The girl’s mother had finished visiting a friend at the Oak Meadows condominiums, 4158 S. Oak Meadows Drive (1600 West), at 9:18 p.m. and put her daughter in the car when she realized she forgot something back at the condo, Hoyal said.
"She was only gone for a few moments. In that short period of time, a suspect jumped in the car and took off," he said.
Unified police, along with officers from other agencies and a police helicopter, were dispatched, and the girl was located about five minutes later near 4100 S. 1300 West. The mother’s car, a silver Chevrolet Impala, also was located across the street at the Calloway Apartments. The car was undamaged.
A witness reportedly saw another car, possibly a red Ford Escort with dark tinted windows and a ski rack on top, pull up and pick up the thief after he abandoned the Impala.
Police are looking for a male who was wearing a black hoodie with gold lettering and basketball trunks. They are asking for anyone with information to call police at 801-743-7000.
