St. George police arrested a knife-wielding drug patient after he allegedly threatened staff at Dixie Regional Medical Center.

The Spectrum reported the incident occurred about 3 p.m. on Wednesday when the 58-year-old patient, who had admitted himself for substance abuse treatment, pulled out a pocket knife.

The man apparently had become upset when staff told him he could not smoke. That was when the man, with three hospital workers nearby, allegedly pulled the knife and threatened to both cut out his IV — and to kill anyone who tried to stop him.

The man was arrested by responding officers without further incident and booked into the Washington County Jail, where he remained Thursday in lieu of $15,000 bail. He was booked on suspicion of felony aggravated assault.
