Logan • The offenses were the guests of honor Thursday night in a regional clash between Logan and Sky View.

And to no one's surprise, the scoreboard registered a combined 73 points.

But the party crasher, at least as far as visiting Sky View was concerned, was the Logan defense. The Bobcats were shut out in the first half, and the Grizzlies posted a 52-21 victory to remain undefeated.

"Sky View had a good team — a great record coming in — but our guys were dialed in from a preparation standpoint," Logan coach Mike Favero said. "We nailed it in the film room and nailed it on the practice field, and that's how you win big games."

Logan (7-0, 4-0 in region) had the benefit of good starting field position throughout the first two quarters, and the Grizzlies used it to pile up a 31-0 lead at the break.

Sky View (5-2, 2-1) contributed mightily to giving the hosts a short field for their first touchdown.

On a fourth-and-7 from its own 38, Sky View ended its first possession with an incomplete pass on a fake punt. It only took Logan three plays to reach pay dirt when quarterback Chase Nelson found Taylor Compton for a 19-yard scoring strike.

"We were dialed in on that formation," Favero said about the Bobcats' early offensive gamble. "It was the first time they had faked a punt, but we had a special call on for that."

Sky View, which fell in its season opener against Timpview, averaged 49.2 points in the five games its opener. But the visitors didn't get on the board until quarterback Braxton Godderidge plunged in from a yard out midway through the third quarter.

Nelson, meanwhile, was his usual dual-threat self. He ended up throwing for 249 yards and rushing for another 180.

He found receiver Chad Artist for a pair of scoring strikes down the left sideline before intermission. One was a 39-yard pass that put the Grizzlies up 14-0. Then after a 37-yard field goal by Angel Reyes and a 2-yard scoring throw to Hartman Rector, Nelson hit Artist again on a 28-yard play to put Logan up 31-0.

"We thought it was going to be closer and we were going to have to grind it out the whole time," Artist said. "We just came out strong and didn't stop."

Two weeks ago, Nelson accumulated nearly 691 yards of total offense in a victory over Roy two weeks ago to set the state record for total offense in a game. He followed that with 586 yards, good enough for third all-time in state history, against Bonneville last week.

After Thursday's win, Favero joked Nelson's 430 yards against the Bobcats wasn't quite up to standards.

"Is that all? I'm very disappointed — that's far less than he's had the last two weeks," Favero said. "I'll have to yell at him when I go back in there." —
