Friday may be one of the last days to enjoy summer-like weather, as a cold front will move into Utah this weekend and cause a drop in temperatures just in time for the first day of fall.
According to the National Weather Service, a cold front is expected to cross Utah, bringing gusty winds on Saturday and cool, possibly rainy weather on Sunday.
The weather service expects that the Saturday winds will be strongest across Utah's western valleys, and crosswinds will be prevalent on east-west oriented routes, such as Interstate 80.
On Friday, temperatures are expected to climb to 80 degrees in cities from Logan to Salt Lake City, while Provo is expected to see a high of 83 degrees. Further south, Cedar City is expected to reach 79 degrees Friday, and St. George will be hotter, with a high of 91 degrees expected.
On Saturday, temperatures are expected to hover around the low-80 range again across the northern half of Utah, with temperatures dipping slightly for the southern half of the state — Cedar City is expected to reach 74 degrees, while St. George is expected to hit 89 degrees. Windy weather is expected statewide.
By Sunday — the first official day of fall — temperatures are expected to drop 10 to 15 degrees, with the greatest chance of precipitation across northern and central Utah.
Salt Lake City is expected to have a high temperature of 63 degrees, and has a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms, while Ogden will similarly see a high of 62 degrees and 40 percent chance of thunderstorms. Provo is expected to have a high 65 degrees, and 40 percent chance of thunderstorms. Logan's high temperature is expected to be near 61 degrees, with a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms. Further south, Cedar City has a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms, and highs of 66 degrees are expected, while St. George will remain sunny and storm-free, the high expected to be near 81 degrees.
