Utah Underwear Run back on, but after LDS General Conference

It appears the Utah Underwear Run is a go for Oct. 6, but will get started later in the day after the LDS General Conference.

Salt Lake City denied the race organizers' first request to start the near-naked runners on their way at 4 p.m. along a route that goes past Temple Square. Police would have had to shepherd thousands along State Street during one of the most heavily trafficked Sundays of the year.

The city counter-proposed to move the event to another day or later the same day — 5 p.m., said city spokesman Art Raymond. It would appear from an update on the race's Facebook page, made about 7:20 p.m. Thursday, that the organizers have accepted the later time.

"The city for now has [green lighted] our event if we leave a little while after conference is out, to give conference attendees time to go home, or pull up a chair and enjoy the show ... heck maybe even run with us," the post reads. The post also reaffirms the Oct. 6 date.

Raymond could not confirm whether the organizers have officially accepted the later time, but he said that it sounds to him like they have.

Race founder Nate Porter previously told The Salt Lake Tribune that scheduling the run any later into October risks frigid, underwear-unfriendly temps.
