Provo — Utah athletic director Chris Hill's acknowledgement last summer that BYU and the University of Utah had basically agreed to play each other in football in 2017 and 2018 has been finalized.

In a school news release, BYU said Monday that the 2017 game will be held at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Sept. 9. The 2018 game will be played at Utah's Rice-Eccles Stadium on Nov. 24.

"As many people are aware we have been working on these two games for awhile," said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. "It's an important historical series for the state and the fans of both schools. It's nice to have it completed."

The Cougars and Utes will meet Saturday at 8:15 p.m. in Provo for the 89th time, according to the Cougars. The Utes claim it will be the 95th time, because they count games played against the school when it was known as Brigham Young Academy. The teams split those games, 3-3.

Games between the longtime rivals are not scheduled to be played in 2014 and 2015.

The 2016 game will be held at Utah on Sept 10.
