Price • The Duchesne Eagles are alone at the top.

The Class 1A school from the Uinta Basin trounced the Carbon Dinos 35-0 on Friday night for its 37th straight victory.

"They came out and played just like we hoped," Duchesne coach Jerry Cowan said. "They did everything we could imagine. It's just another game, but this one's special. Whether you like it or not, it's history, and it's something we'll never forget."

The Eagles left little room for doubt among the hundreds of fans who made the trip to Price, jumping out to a 35-0 halftime lead behind quarterback Trent Roberts and a hard-running trio of Matt Muir, Matt Dye and Dylan Despain.

Muir picked up 14 yards on fourth-and-4 to set up a 20-yard strike from Roberts to Braxton Spencer to start the scoring.

The Dinos only entered the red zone once, and they fumbled away that opportunity.

The Timpview Thunderbirds previously held the record for consecutive wins, amassing 36 wins in a row over the 2006 to 2009 seasons under former coach Louis Wong. But with the Eagles on the verge of supplanting the mark this week, Wong offered encouragement for the Eastern Utah high school.

"Records are made to be broken," he said. "What they've been able to do has been incredible. It doesn't matter what level — 1A, 2A, 4A. People don't realize how difficult that is."

Duchesne started the streak with a Sept 3, 2010, victory over West Wendover, Nev. The Eagles have won three straight state championships in the process.
