A teenage boy has died a day after he fell 50 feet while hiking near Layton.

Davis County Sheriff's Undersheriff Brett Peters confirmed that he died from his injuries early Sunday morning.

Deputy Kelly Sharp told KUTV News that search and rescue crews were dispatched to Adams Canyon just east of Layton at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The teen, who has not been identified, had been hiking with a group when he reportedly fell.

The fall occurred about two to three miles from the Adams Canyon trailhead.

Sharp told the station that the boy was taken via helicopter in critical condition to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

Deputies are waiting to release his name until after they have notified his family.
