Editors note: Due to incorrect information from the family, an earlier version of this article referred to Mr. Miller as 45 years old. He was 44.

Roger Lawrence Miller, son of the late Utah Jazz owner and businessman Larry H. Miller, died Sunday.

A family statement did not detail why Roger Miller, who was 44, died. Linda Luchetti, a family spokeswoman, did not know whether he was in Utah or away when he died.

"Roger was a gentle soul and he will be missed," said his brother Greg Miller in the statement.

Roger Miller worked for his father's company for 28 years, mostly as a chief technology officer who helped develop, among other things, the ticket kiosks at the Megaplex Theaters.

More recently, he was only with the company part-time and spent more of his days driving race cars. In January, he and Ian James, who co-drove a Dempsey Racing-prepared Mustang, finished 10th in the Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series at the Daytona International Speedway. In April, Miller Racing placed 15th in the third round of the series.

He also enjoyed spending his free time with his family, skiing, scuba diving, riding ATVs and camping, the family statement said.

Larry H. Miller died in 2009 at age 64. Greg Miller has since been president of the corporation bearing his father's name. That corporation owns the Jazz, auto dealerships, movie theaters and a list of other sports and entertainment businesses.

Miller is survived by his wife Cheri L. Miller, his five daughters — Carisa, Morgan, Breanne, Taylor and Harli — and his four sons, Braden, Tyson, Gentry and Robert. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Rielly, Emili and Garith.

Information on a memorial service was not immediately available Sunday night.
