Firefighters and a hazardous materials team worked to clean up a fuel spill in Woods Cross that sent one person to the hospital.
Battalion Chief John Hauze of the South Davis Metro Fire Department said about 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from a filling hose at 500 South and 700 West Friday night. A truck at a filling station pulled away from a filling station at about 7 p.m. without disconnecting, and the fuel left in the hose spilled onto 500 South.
A woman who was riding a bicycle encountered the spill and slipped. She was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, Hauze said.
Hauze said some of the fuel dripped into a storm sewer nearby, prompting the Davis County Environmental Health Services Division to investigate. The fuel did not get into any other drains or water systems, Hauze said.
The fire department deployed sanders and sweepers to 500 South to help with the clean up. The spill briefly shut down FrontRunner rail operation between Salt Lake City and Farmington, but the fire department reported that the line was back in service just before 8 p.m.
