A tense afternoon in West Valley City ended peacefully Friday when police arrested a man who barricaded himself inside his house after a domestic dispute.
West Valley City Deputy Chief Mike Powell said police responded to the house near 4385 South and 4440 West at about noon. The 22-year-old man had gotten into a struggle with his wife that also involved a 3-month-old infant, Powell said. The woman escaped the house with minor injuries, but the man barricaded himself inside, and refused to leave once police arrived.
It was unclear whether the man was armed.
After more than five hours, a police were able to get a search warrant for the home, and officers in SWAT gear entered the house through an unlocked door. Powell said the man surrendered to officers without incident.
The man was arrested on an outstanding warrant alleging a previous domestic violence incident. During the standoff, neighbors in the surrounding homes were evacuated.
