About 1,026 Rocky Mountain Power customers in Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake are left in the dark — and the heat.

South Salt Lake firefighters fielded several calls about 6:30 p.m. concerning two downed power lines, one near 300 E. 2200 South and another two blocks south. It appears one line went down, which overstressed the second and caused it to break, said Battalion Chief Terry Addison.

The affected customers are within the 84115 zip code, where temperatures were still in the low 90s as of 8:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Investigators have not figured out why the first one broke, but crews expect to have the lines fixed by 11:30 p.m., according to the company.
