Midway • It has been quite a week so far for the Ogden family of Davis County, and it could get even better.

Cole Ogden, 21, won medalist honors at the 115th Utah State Amateur golf tournament on Tuesday, firing a 5-under 67 on the Gold Course to complete two rounds of stroke-play and qualify for match play at 6-under 138.

Monday, his older brother, professional Clay Ogden, qualified to play in the Web.com Utah Championship that begins Thursday at Willow Creek Country Club by shooting a 7-under-par 65 at Glen Eagle Golf Course.

"It has been fun," said Cole Ogden, a BYU golfer who redshirted this past year and will be a junior this fall. "Today, I just kind of did everything solid."

Ogden birdied all four of the par-5s and also had a couple of 2s on his scorecard, mastering the Gold Course's tricky par-3s.

Joe Parkinson, the 2010 State Am champ, could have tied Ogden for medalist, but had to take a two-stroke penalty for showing up late for his tee time. Parkinson and Christian Jensen, last year's runner-up to Jon Wright at The Country Club, tied for second at 4-under 140.

As usual, the best drama after the second round came in the form of a playoff, as 11 golfers went back to the course late Tuesday (there were three no-shows) to battle for the last three spots in the expanded match-play field of 64.

Craig Wilson and Tyler Miner birdied the first playoff hole to get in; Brandon Hargett got in with a par on the third playoff hole.
