Several lightning-sparked brush fires that began Friday continued to scorch wildlands Sunday as temperatures continued to soar.
In the Cove Fort area, the Antelope Fire had burned about 5,200 acres, officials said. The fire was reported at 7 p.m. Friday and was 30 percent contained as of Sunday. The fire was not threatening any buildings and about 35 people were on scene working the blaze.
The Wildflower Fire had burned more than 600 acres north of the Simpson Mountains in Tooele County. It was only 10 percent contained as of Saturday night, and crews don't expect to have it reined in until July 4.
The lightning-sparked Death Canyon Fire also continued to burn in the remote West Desert near Simpson Mountain. The fire is about 95 percent contained, with 72 acres burned, and firefighters said Sunday they expected it to be fully contained soon.
