Salt Lake center fielder Trent Oeltjen hit two home runs, drove in five runs and scored three runs on Wednesday night to lead the Bees (39-35) past the Sacramento River Cats (40-33) 11-7 in front of 6,979 at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

Oeltjen hit a solo home run to lead off the second inning and give his team a 3-2 lead. With two runners on base and two outs in the seventh, he drove a full-count pitch deep to right-center field to give his team a 10-6 lead.

Ryan Brasier (2-2) earned the win for Salt Lake in relief, while Sacramento reliever Hideki Okajima (0-2) was the losing pitcher.

After being shutout on three hits Tuesday night, Sacramento started quickly offensively on Wednesday with a 470-foot, two-run home run by designated hitter Grant Green in the first inning.

Salt Lake would rally for its own pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Third baseman Chris Nelson, who hit two home runs on Tuesday, drove in Tommy Field from second base with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Luis Rodriguez.

Sacramento took the lead back with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Salt Lake looked to mount its own rally in the bottom of the fifth when Sacramento starter Justin Thomas walked the bases loaded with one out, but Nelson struck out looking and Roberto Lopez grounded out to shortstop to end the threat.

After leaving the bases loaded in the fifth, the Bees would not be denied in the sixth against Okajima. Rodriguez doubled to open the inning, Matt Long sacrificed him to third, Oeltjen drove Long home with a bloop single and John Hester crushed a two-run homer to left field to give Salt Lake a 6-4 lead.

The top of the seventh inning turned into an adventure for the Bees when errors indirectly led to two runs for Sacramento, tying the game 6-6.

But in the bottom of the seventh, Andrew Romine singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly before Oeltjen's three-run blast gave the Bees the lead for good. —
