Missoula, Mont. • The University of Montana is taking applications for the softball coach who will build the new program that will take to the field in the spring of 2015.

Senior associate athletic director Jean Gee says the job announcement has been posted on the UM human resources website and will the NCAA's job site. Applicants are required to have at least four years of collegiate softball coaching experience.

Gee says a search committee will begin reviewing applications in early June and the school hopes to have someone in place by August. The new coach will have to hire assistants and scout and recruit players. The team also needs equipment, a place to practice and a schedule.

Five other Big Sky Conference teams offer softball: Weber State, Idaho State, Portland State, Southern Utah and Sacramento State.
