A man who was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence after a fire at his Salt Lake City home Wednesday now faces possible charges of arson and attempted murder.
Booking information from the Salt Lake County jail shows that Daniel Ivins, 33, was jailed on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence assault and felony counts of second-degree aggravated arson, second-degree aggravated assault and attempted second-degree murder.
On Wednesday morning, Salt Lake City firefighters responded to a residence at 377 N. 800 West. Ivins and three other occupants escaped the fire unharmed. After the fire was put out, a woman reported to the firefighters that Ivins had assaulted her, and he was later arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.
On Thursday, Ivins was accused of the additional crimes. Salt Lake City Fire spokesman Jasen Asay said Wednesday that investigators would question Ivins about whether he played a role in the blaze.
