Utah's baseball team edged Pac-12 opponent Washington 5-4 in 10 innings in the opener of their three-game series Friday in Seattle. The Huskies rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the eighth and ninth innings to tie the game, but back-to-back singles from Utah's Braden Anderson and Cory Hunt sent AJ Young home for the winning run.

Mitch Watrous allowed two runs on eight hits and had five strikeouts in 71⁄3 innings for the Utes.

BYU 10, San Francisco 9 • Kelton Caldwell's walk-off homer sent the Cougars to a win in Provo, capping off a 4-for-5 performance from the junior. Jacob Hanneman added a triple and a three-run homer as the Cougars (25-19) topped the Dons (31-20). The tiebreaker for the three-game series is Saturday at 1 p.m.

College of Southern Idaho 6, Salt Lake Community College 0 • In Henderson, Nev., the Bruins were eliminated from Region 18 postseason play after CSI went up 1-0 in the fourth inning, then poured in the insurance runs with a five-run seventh inning.

Sophomore Steven Adam led SLCC with a 2-for-3 effort and a pair of singles. Sophomore Michael Springer picked up the loss with five strikeouts and one run allowed in six innings, while sophomore Skylar Janisse had two earned runs in two innings.

Softball

Southern Utah 5, Sacramento State 4 • The Thunderbirds eliminated Sacramento State from the Big Sky Conference Tournament in Pocatello, Idaho. Southern Utah built up runs early to withstand a four-run sixth inning from the Hornets.

Southern Utah 5, Idaho State 1 • In their second game of the day, the Thunderbirds beat the conference tourney host. SUU's Ariel Zimmerman earned the win with five strikeouts, giving up only one run on four hits.

Salt Lake Community College 7, North Idaho College 1 • The No. 6-ranked Bruins will head to the Region 18 Championship game after their win in Twin Falls, Idaho. SLCC nabbed the lead early, going up 3-0 in the first inning thanks in part to Maddy Woodard's two-RBI double. Sophomore MaCauley Flint earned the win, allowing four hits and striking out three.

Track & field

• Southern Utah's Nate Jewkes took first in the 10,000 meters at the Big Sky Conference Championships in Forest Grove, Ore.

• Utah State's Rachel Orr won the high jump with a height of 1.76m in the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Arlington, Texas. The Aggies' men's team is tied for third place after the third day of the competition, and the women are in fifth place overall.
