A dump truck hit an overpass in Murray on Monday morning, snarling traffic on Interstate 215.
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Todd Johnson said the truck entered the westbound Union Park on-ramp with its bed raised. The truck then struck the 900 East overpass.
The accident was reported at 8:17 a.m. Johnson said the driver of the dump truck subsequently reported pain in one arm and was transported to a hospital as a precaution. There was no indication he was impaired, Johnson added.
Johnson did not know why the truck entered the freeway with its bed raised. He also said the bed was empty when it struck the overpass.
According Johnson, the accident forced at least some lane closures, though by 10:15 a.m. only the on-ramp and a nearby "fly-over" lane that feeds into the on-ramp remained shut. Johnson said UDOT engineers were on scene Monday morning working to get the on-ramp reopened.
