A briefcase initially reported as a suspicious package Tuesday afternoon at the Utah Valley Convention Center in Provo turned out to contain only tools, according to Provo Police.

Dispatchers received a call about the package at 1:17 p.m. Police and fire personnel converged on the convention center at 220 W. Center St. to check it out.

Lt. Matthew Siufanua said an employee at the convention center called to report the package after noticing it was unattended for some time. Siufanua said police and fire personnel responded and evacuated the convention center. Center Street between Freedom Boulevard and 300 West also was blocked off for about an hour.

Siufanua said bomb disposal team used a robot to retrieve the package. An X-ray taken of the briefcase later revealed work tools inside.
