A 13-year-old girl, one of four teenagers struck by a car on a dark, rural road in Payson, has died from her injuries, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
UHP confirmed Monday that Courtney Osborn passed away about 1 p.m. Sunday at Primary Children's Medical Center after being taken off life support.
Osborn suffered severe head trauma and multiple other injuries when she was hit by a car about 11:24 p.m. on State Road 147 near 9200 South just north of Payson. UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said that it was unclear Monday whether the teens were walking along the side of the road or whether they were crossing the road when the collision occurred. Johnson said investigators were looking into the possibility that they were walking along the side, "but that's not concrete yet."
Still at the hospital Monday in critical, but stable, condition was 13-year-old Jared Fillmore, who suffered multiple broken bones and head trauma. Haylee Burr, 15, and Shanece Reynold, 13, were released after being treated for minor leg injuries.
The four teens had been at a party in the area just before the crash. It was not clear on Sunday why the four decided to cross the highway, which has no streetlights, UHP said.
The driver of the car, 17-year-old Shanae Sainsbury, who was driving a late model Honda Civic, was not injured.
The cause of the accident remained under investigation.
