St. George • Both Pine View and Dixie were looking to continue the momentum from previous wins to take control of second place in Region 9.

Dixie had the added incentive of trying to avenge a one-run loss in the first meeting between the softball teams.

The Panthers would have none of it, pulling away from a close game with six runs in the seventh inning to post the 10-1 victory Friday.

Pine View's Carissa Fiame gave her team the lead with a three-run homer in the fourth inning. An error and a fielder's choice put two runners on, and Fiame cleared the bases with a drive over the left-centerfield wall.

"We try to get some girls on base, and then hope you can make them pay for it," Pine View coach Randy Green said. "And today it was Carissa getting us going."

Pine View cashed in on another Dixie error for a 4-0 lead after four innings.

Panthers starting pitcher Kirsten Anderson stifled the Flyers until the sixth, when a one-out triple led to a sacrifice fly by Stacia Gelter to cut the Panthers' lead to 4-1.

But that was all Dixie could muster. Anderson finished with seven strikeouts.

Pine View tacked on six runs in the top of the seventh to remove any doubt. Elaine Asaasa crushed a fastball over the centerfield fence to highlight the inning.
