Nat Borchers has won six Rocky Mountain Cups. His fellow defender Chris Wingert has won seven of them.

And Real Salt Lake captain Kyle Beckerman has won eight during his career.

But after falling to the host Colorado Rapids 1-0 on Saturday night, those streaks and RSL's six-year stranglehold on the rivalry are in jeopardy.

Beckerman, however, is none too worried.

"We'd like to be in a different position, but it's still there to play for," he said in the locker room after the loss. "We've won here before, so we're just going to have to win here in that third game and we'll get it. But for the most part, we want to be at the top of the table. We're really not concerned with Colorado. We concern ourselves with Supporters' Shields and things like that."

RSL (2-3-1), which played to a 1-1 tie with Colorado on March 16, will have to wait until Aug. 3 for its third and final showdown of the season with the Rapids.

Something new

RSL now turns its attention to the north.

The Vancouver Whitecaps took advantage of a San Jose wardrobe change to earn a 1-1 draw in California on Saturday night. When a pair of Earthquakes decided to change their cleats at the same time during the game, the Whitecaps used a temporary two-man advantage to score a goal.

"Every year in MLS you see something you've never seen before," Vancouver goalkeeper Joe Cannon told reporters after the match.

RSL will be hoping to see something new next weekend, too. Salt Lake has never won in Canada.

Getting closer

Wingert, who broke a bone in his foot during offseason training, saw his first action of the year a week ago in an exhibition match against BYU. The defender, who played 30 minutes in his first outing, appears to be closer to a return to the first team. Wingert logged 70 minutes in a 0-0 reserve match draw Saturday in Colorado. —
