Salt Lake Bees announce Opening Day roster
Baseball comes back to Salt Lake City on April 4, and so do a few familiar faces.
The Salt Lake Bees annouced their Opening Day roster on Monday afternoon, which includes returning talent at the corners. Third baseman Luis Jimenez and first baseman Efren Navarro come back after playing key roles last season for the team. So does outfielder Kole Calhoun and workhorse pitcher Matt Shoemaker.
The Bees have nine men on the Anaheim Angels' 40-man roster, including pitchers Ryan Brasier, David Carpenter, Barry Enright, Michael Kohn and Brandon Sisk; infielders Jimenez and Tommy Field; outfielders Calhoun and Scott Cousins, and catcher John Hester.
In all, 18 of the 24-man roster have played in the majors.
Jimenez, Navarro and Calhoun were among Salt Lake's heavy hitters last season, all batting over .294. The pitching staff has many new arrivals to Salt Lake, but five pitchers spent part of the 2012 season with major league clubs.
The season-opener is a 6:35 p.m. on Thursday at Spring Mobile Ballpark against the Tuscon Padres.
