Actor Robert Redford will be the commencement speaker for Westminster College, the school announced Monday.

Known for founding the Sundance Film Festival in Park City and his environmental activism in Utah as well as his decades-long film career, Redford will address more than 900 seniors at the Maverick Center in West Valley City on June 1.

Graduates "have demonstrated social responsibility through their service to the community and their commitment to the environment," said Westminster president Brian Levin-Stankevich in a statement. "Robert Redford's passionate commitment to social justice will be an exciting model for our graduates."

Commencement speakers at other Utah institutions include: Liz Murray, author of Breaking Night: A Memoir of Forgiveness, Survival, and My Journey from Homeless to Harvard at the University of Utah; Anousheh Ansari, the first Iranian woman in space at Utah Valley University; and Derreck Kayongo, a Ugandan refugee and entrepreneur at Salt Lake Community College.

Redford starred in the movies "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "Indecent Proposal," "The Horse Whisperer," and more.

Westminster is a private college with about 3,300 students located at 1840 South 1300 East in Salt Lake City.
