A man who led authorities in Arizona and Utah on a high-speed chase on Interstate 15 was injured in a crash Saturday, along with two other motorists, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
UHP said Arizona troopers attempted to stop a 2007 Honda CR-V with an Oregon license platefor a traffic violation Saturday about 7:45 p.m. near mile post 5 in Arizona.
Instead of stopping, Utah troopers said Zane Sterling Skeen, 34, increased his speed to 115 mph and drove into Utah.
Authorities set up spike strips just inside the Utah line, deflating the right-side tires, but Skeen kept driving.
Skeen drove about another mile and a half before veering into I-15's southbound lanes and into the path of a Subaru.
As that driver tried to avoid a crash, troopers said it appeared Skeen purposely swerved into the Subaru, crashing into the driver's side rear door.
The impact caused the CR-V to roll several times down a small embankment, and Skeen was ejected.
Skeen was flown by medical helicopter to University Medical Center in Las Vegas. His condition wasn't known Sunday. The two occupants of the Subaru — Randy and Mary Suker — suffered minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center. Their conditions were also unknown Sunday.
An investigation is continuing to determine why Skeen fled from police. UHP is investigating the crash and Arizona DPS is conducting the criminal investigation.
