With a large bag of ice wrapped around his right knee, Patrick Neville glanced at the old scoreboard at Judge Memorial High School and smiled.

"That's a pretty good score," said the Bulldog senior. "We'll take that."

After what players and coaches described as a lethargic effort at Union on Jan. 18 — a game in which the Bulldogs gave up 68 points and lost — Judge wanted to make a concerted effort to defend.

Ask Park City how that worked out.

The Bulldogs clamped down on the Miners early and often in their 53-38 Region 10 rivalry win Wednesday night. The victory propelled Judge to a Region 10-best 13-5 record, including 4-1 in region play.

Through 18 games this season, Judge has yet to lose back-to-back games, which is something that makes coach Dan Del Porto quite happy.

"I think it's a tremendous credit to them," he said. "That's a sign of a really good team."

Sporting their typical balanced attack, the Bulldogs were led by senior guards Terrell Young, who had 14 points and knocked down four 3-pointers, as well as senior guard Joe Cremer, who finished with 13. Junior forward Ryan Pauley finished with nine, while Neville chipped in seven.

"That's the hardest thing to guard," Del Porto said, "is balance."

That foursome spearheaded a quick 10-1 second-quarter run that put Judge up seven at halftime.

While both teams were fairly cold in the first half, the Bulldogs got warmer as the game wore on, led by the timely 3-point shooting of Young as well as the slashing and finishing of Cremer.

"We're a really good passing team, and we've improved in that over the season," said Cremer. "We're really always looking for each other."

Del Porto echoed the thoughts of his senior guard, saying assists are a crucial stat the coaching staff looks at following each game when breaking down wins or losses.

"We preach it," he said, "we preach sharing the ball."

Park City, which dropped to 7-10 and 3-2 in Region 10 play, was led in the loss by senior forward Hayden Daily, who finished with 13 points, as well as sophomore point guard Bosten VanDerVeur, who had 12.

Neville said while the Bulldogs are currently atop the region, the crown remains up for grabs, which provides continued motivation for Judge going forward.

"It'll be a dogfight to the finish, basically," he said. "Whoever can close out the strongest will take the region."

Cremer said going through the second round of region play — Judge hosts Uintah on Friday — will be even more difficult, before pausing."In two weeks especially when we go up to Park City," he said. "I guarantee it." —
