Two men who were cut from the wreckage of their car Thursday after it wedged under a semi-trailer rig in South Salt Lake, are expected to survive, police said Friday.
South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller said the crash, which happened near 3100 South and 900 West, appeared to have occurred when the southbound semi's driver attempted to make a U-turn and the small white Dodge car, also southbound, was unable to avoid a collision.
South Salt Lake firefighters had to use hydraulic rescue tools to peel away the car's roof in order to free the two men, one said to be in his 40s and the other in his 30s.
The men were taken in critical condition to area hospitals, Keller said.
But police said Friday their injuries are not life-threatening.
The driver of the semi was not hurt.
