A Sunset police officer escaped uninjured Thursday after a man shot at his police car, according to KUTV 2 News.
The officer was driving down 2300 North near 700 West on patrol when he spotted a man walking down the side of the road, KUTV reports. Police later identified the suspect as Zane Openshaw, 22.
"He sees a guy on the side of the street, he says it looks like he was kind of going for a gun and he says all he did was duck and the shots started ringing out. I don't know how many at this point, some neighbors say five, some say as many as eight, 12," Clinton police Chief Bill Chilson told the TV news station. The officer wasn't hit.
Davis County dispatchers said that calls about the gunfire came in about 5 p.m.
Police say the gunman took off running, but police later took the man into custody and are trying to determine why he shot at the officer, who was not identified, according to KUTV.
The officer was very shaken up, but "he's going to go home tonight, and that's what counts," Chilson told KUTV.
Openshaw will be booked into the Davis County Jail.
