Utah high schools fared well on the opening night of the Great Western Shootout in Orem.

Lone Peak, the No. 3-ranked team in the nation by Maxpreps.com, got double-figure scoring from its big three in its lopsided win over Foothill, Nev., while Orem routed Basha, Ariz., 68-46 in the nightcap Friday. The tournament continues Friday and Saturday, with a showdown between Orem and Lone Peak in the final game Saturday.

West Jordan, a Class 5A program, earned a 57-49 win over South Sevier, the two-time defending Class 2A state champion, in a battle between Utah schools in the tournament opener.

Bountiful was the lone Utah school to fall to an out-of-state opponent. The Braves led by four points late in the fourth quarter, but Denver East's pressure was too much down the stretch. Bountiful fell to Denver East 68-60 despite 29 points, including eight 3-pointers, from Zach Seljaas.

Nick Emery and Eric Mika scored 17 points apiece in Lone Peak's 72-38 victory. TJ Haws added 15 points in the win. Lone Peak improved to 4-0 this season and has won all of its games by at least 20 points. Dalton Nixon scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Jordan Darger chipped in 15 points and seven boards in Orem's win. Zach Hunsaker finished with 12 points, seven assists and five steals for the Tigers, who opened a 14-point lead at halftime. Orem shot 49 percent from the field in the contest. —
