Police say things suddenly got very serious after a domestic argument spilled out of a west Salt Lake City apartment.

When a disagreement between a 27-year-old man and his 23-year-old wife reached the boiling point Tuesday morning, the woman took refuge in a neighbor's unit near 1300 West and 500 North. The husband then forced his way into that apartment, fought with residents who got in his way and then dragged his wife from upstairs against her will.

Police later located the couple and arrested the man. He was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of single counts of third-degree felony burglary and second-degree felony kidnapping, two class B misdemeanor counts of assault and one class B misdemeanor retail theft charge.

He was being held in lieu of $5,275 bail.

Police said the wife was uninjured.
