Canyons Resort and the Christian Center of Park City want to collect at least 9,990 pounds of nonperishable food and baby items by Dec. 21.
"My team and I would like to ask our guests and our community to consider those who are less fortunate" and donate goods, said Mike Goar, Canyons' managing director. He noted that 5,000 families from Summit and Wasatch counties are expected to seek assistance this holiday season from the Christian Center's food pantry.
Christian Center Executive Director Rob Harter said his organization has served 41,000 people this year, mostly from Park City, Kamas, Oakley, Heber and Coalville. He said the pantry needs white rice, cooking oil, non-refrigerated juice, canned soup, dried beans, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, diapers, baby formula, baby food and wipes.
Collection points will be set up at all Canyons Resort village hotels, at The Farm restaurant and in the bottom parking lot by the cabriolet lift. Other Summit County collection sites are at the Walmart Supercenter, The Market at Park City and Weilenmann School of Discovery.
Canyons spokesman Steve Pastorino said donations of money also are welcome but should be made through a secure website, http://www.ccofpc.org.
